SmartMeasurment- Positive Displacement Meter

POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT FLOWMETERS
SERIES ALBRPD meters

SMC Bi-Rotor Positive Displacement flowmeter (ALBRPD)

The SMC Bi-Rotor PD flowmeter features two precisely machined rotating members known as helical rotors which
rotate and mesh within the meter's interior housing in order to form a measuring chamber of known volume which
may be used to accurately determine volumetric flow rate as a function of the rotors' velocity. The helical rotors'
motion is transmitted to the display via a sealed coupling & drive system that enables the display to provide accurate

data for both flow rate and total accumulated flow. The unique helical rotor design provides a number of advantages
over traditional gear-type PD meters including reduced pressure drop, the virtual elimination of down-stream
pulsations, enhanced particle tolerance, and reduced maintenance. The advantages provided by the helical rotor
make the SMCPD an ideal choice for many applications including oil-in-water media and fluids with entrained solids.

  • PD Gear Flow Meters Series ALGPD

ALPD Positive Displacement GEAR Flow Meters
The SMC series ALGPD Gear flow meter is suitable for the precise flow measurement of various fluids of viscosities from 5 up to 25k mm²/s.
Providing sufficient lubricity of the fluid, the small gear flow meters type ALGPD 01/1 and 02 as well as ball bearing versions may also be
used for fluids below 5 mm²/s. Gear flow meters are positive displacement meters, similar in design to a gear pump. The measuring medium
rotates two gears, which are engaged with minimum play. The medium is forced along through closed measuring chambers between gears
and housing. The gears, which run idle, lose no power. The RPM of the gears is in proportion with the instantaneous flow rate and precisely
detected by integral pickups through the body of the meter without contacting the fluid. Flow signal can be displayed using our ALVTM or
our various other electronics. We calibrate our flow meters to match the customer's operating viscosities to determine their Kfactors.
ALVTM Display with Frequency and Analog Output
The ALVTM is a programmable local display with integral carrier frequency pickup and amplifier for SMC mechanical flow meter.Flow rate is
indicated in an 8 digit LCD display with 14 segments. A 10 point linearization is included to optimize the accuracy. The pulse output provides a
flow proportional frequency signal or scaled volume pulse in accordance with programming. For electrical connection a 6-pin plug or a junction
box with 6 internal terminals is provided

    FEATURES
    - High output frequencies resulting in good resolution and suitable for pulsating flows.
    - Reverse-flow detection and pulse multiplication functions
    - Ex-protection EExiaIICT6/T4
    - Resistance to high voltage from 50 kV up to 120 kV
    - Special meters with high-pressure connectors up to 690 bar.
    - Heated versions are available on request.
  • POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT FLOWMETERS - SERIES ALOVPD meters

Oval Gear Positive Displacement Flowmeter (ALOVPD)
The SmartMeasurement ALOVPD Oval gear flowmeter features two precisely machined
rotating elliptical (oval) gears which rotate and mesh within the meter's interior housing in
order to form a measuring chamber of known volume. The ALOVPD may be used to
accurately determine volumetric flow rate as a function of the gears' velocity. The design of
the oval gear meter makes it an ideal choice for applications where a higher priced PD meters maybe too expensive for certain non critical applications. The low cost ALOVPD provides good accuracy while offering reduced pressure drop versus traditional circular-gear type PD meters. The ALOVPD meter comes with a rugged battery-powered display module that indicates flow rate and totalized flows in user-configurable engineering units.

    - Superior accuracy - to 0.5% of reading with ±0.03% repeatability
    - Elliptical gear design provides low pressure loss
    - Meter body is available in Cast Iron (Std), CS, 304SS or 316SS
    - Bearings are available in Cast Iron (Std), CS, 304SS or 316SS as well as Alnico
    - Will accommodate pressures of up to 63 bar
    - Will accommodate viscosities of up to 2000 cP
  • Helical Flow Meters Series ALHPD

ALHPD Positive Displacement Helical Flow Meters, consists of:
Two highly accurate cycloid-shaped screw spindles mesh and rotate inside a cylindrical housing with two overlapping holes in the form of a
figure 8, which forms the measuring chamber. Liquid flows in axial direction and rotates the spindles, it is forced along the measuring chamber
bores by the profile of the spindles. This happens without pulsation and with minimum leakage. A pickup will inductively detect the speed of the
spindle pair through the housing via a pole wheel with a high number of gears. The speed of the spindles is absolutely proportional to the volume
flow over a very wide range. Pulses per volume unit will finally serve the evaluation (in addition an analogue signal 4 to 20 mA will be
available when using the local display unit ALVTM. The K-factor (calibration factor) of the helical flow meter defines the exact pulse rate per liter
We calibrate our flow meters to match the customer's operating viscosities to determine their Kfactors.
ALVTM Display with Frequency and Analog Output
The ALVTM is a programmable local display with integral carrier-frequency pickup and amplifier for SMC turbine meters. Flow rate is

provides a flow-proportional frequency signal or scaled volume pulse in accordance with programming. For electrical connection a 6-pin
plug or a junction box with 6 internal terminals is provided

  • Nutating Disc Micro Flow PD Flowmeter ALMPD Series

SMC’s ALMPD micro-flowmeter is a nutating disk positive displacement meter designed
for precise measurement of ultra-low flow rates. The low-cost ALMPD offers superior
value by providing a package that is capable of measuring very low flow rates with less
susceptibility to wear versus other positive displacement flowmeters and the ability to
work with a wider variety of hostile liquids. The ALMPD may easily be disassembled,
cleaned and reassembled with reasonable care in the field.
Measurement occurs as the result of the dual orbiting motion of the nutating
mechanism as it rolls on the beam. Refer to figures A, B, C and D in sequence.
This motion is induced by the fluid as it passes through the meter. This motion
is consistent because the differential pressure forces are always great enough
to ensure that the nutating mechanism travels the complete volume in each
chamber. The process repeats itself 12 to 250 cycles per second, in proportion
to the fluid flow through the meter. A flow signal is produced by interrupting the
light from a photoemitting/detecting device. The interruptions are created by a
magnet wire which tracks the magnet encapsulated in the orbiting nutating
mechanism. The interruptions are then converted to an electronic square wave
output, which is used to quantify the flow.

    FEATURES
    - The relative simplicity of the ALMPD makes it far less costly than other PD
flowmeters desigined for low-flow rate measurement.
    - Reduced susceptibility to wear versus other PD technologies as a result of the
    following design features:
o Micro-machined components with reduced size resulting in lower
relative velocities amongst the moving parts
o Any forces acting on one side of the nutator are offset by opposing
forces acting on the opposite side.
o The ends of the beam are rounded, resulting in a rolling motion rather
    than sliding during operation.
    - Since the moving parts are not rigidly attached to each other or the motion
detection mechanism, the ALMPD is capable of service in fluids less filtered than
other devices which may be capable of measuring similar low flow rates.
    - Should the MICRO FLOWMETER become clogged with debris, it can be easily
disassembled, cleaned and reassembled with reasonable care in the field.
